a&a workshops were created to help those in the Filipinx diaspora explore their deeply-buried stories through creative writing, kapwa and celebration
When you join an a&a workshop, you enter a space that strives to uphold the following values
Sanghaya
We honor this shared sacred and creative space. We make no room for disrespect, discrimination or hate speech of any kind.
Curiosity
We welcome all Filipinx stories and experiences. If there is something we don’t agree with or don’t understand, we approach with compassion, curiosity and kindness.
Patience
400+ years of colonization cannot be overthrown in a single generation, but the seeds can be planted now. We recognize this is a long road, but one worth pursuing to reclaim the broader Filipino narrative and reconnect with our ancient roots.
Humility
We are all teachers and students, and none of us are ‘more’ Filipino than one another. We meet on equal ground and honor everyone’s journey towards understanding our shared lineage.
Celebration
We celebrate all workshop creations as each one represents truth coming to light. All decolonization work comes with grief and anger, so in this space we intentionally make room for joy and celebration.
Kapwa
We recognize our selves and our stories in one another, and uphold each other with respect, kindness, and sensitivity.
